Roberta Flack

Nació el 10 de febrero de 1939 en Asheville, Carolina del Norte.

Se dio a conocer cantando jazz en un nightclub de Washington junto al pianista Les McCann.

Graba First Take and Chapter Two, con canciones introspectivas y una versión de Ewan MacColl's, 'First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'. Canta 'Where Is The Love' (1972), un dueto junto a Donny Hathaway, y 'Killing Me Softly With His Song' (1973), canción que consigue un éxito rotundo. Siguió con 'The Closer I Get To You' (1978), 'Back Together Again' (1980) y 'Tonight I Celebrate My Love' (1983).

Definida como clásica, urbana y reservada y sofisticada. Supo mantener un estilo sofisticado que mantuvo un fiel público a lo largo del tiempo. Regresó a las listas de éxitos en 1991 con el dúo 'Set the Night to Music' junto a Maxi Priest.

Casada con Stephen Novosel de 1966 a 1972.
